Point Cabrillo Light Station Centennial Events and Activities were held during 2009 on the dates  below. 

 

Visitors and Guests are invited to attend or participate in any or all of the activities/events noted.   The Light Station grounds are open from sunrise to sunset daily. The Lighthouse, Light Keeper's Museums, Marine Science and other exhibits are open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily (including Christmas and New Years days).

 

Point Cabrillo Centennial PosterThroughout the Year

  • Observe the cleaning of the Lantern Room and Third Order Fresnel lens by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary from the ground – every Friday 8:30 – 10:00. 

 Throughout the Summer

  • Docent Tours start at Light Station Entrance Parking Area every Sunday at 11:00 am from June to September.  Tour the 30.5-acre Light Station, Frolic Cove bluff top, and Lighthouse with plant, bird, small animal, whale, harbor seal, and sea lion watching  along the way .

 April

  • April 20         -            Earth Day – Park Grounds are   open from dawn to dusk for nature exploration with museums and facilities open from 11 am to 4 pm.

May

  • May 2             -           Mendocino Heritage  Days

    1. Point Cabrillo Lightkeepers will offer a guided walk  at 11:30 am, to the Lighthouse and Frolic Cove (weather permitting).  Learn the history of the Point Cabrillo site beginning with the Pomo Native people who summered at the site, the Frolic shipwreck in  1850, the development of the lumber industry and the maritime trade on the  coast that led to the building of the Light Station in 1909.

    2. Point Cabrillo Lighthouse Lens Tours   U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.  1 of 4   guided tours for the year.       Visitors have the rare opportunity to climb the ladder way to the Lens Room to view the working Third   Order Fresnel lens. [Donation Requested] .

June

  • June 6           -          Centennial Partnership Celebration CA State Parks and the Point Cabrillo Lightkeepers Association will host activities celebrating the construction and history of the Light Station for visitors, dignitaries, and media.  Tours of the Station’s buildings will be available throughout the day.  Grounds and trails open for family picnics, reunions, and hiking.
  • June 7           -           Docent Tours / Information –  11:00 a.m. at Light Station Entrance Parking Area – Tour the 30.5-acre Light  Station, Frolic Cove bluff top, and Lighthouse with  Bird, Whale, Harbor Seal, and Sea Lion watching.
  • June 10         -           Happy 100th Birthday, Point Cabrillo Light Station at

sunset “Relighting the Light” Program.  Visitors

and dignitaries will have the opportunity to experience a historical reenactment of the lighting of the 3rd Order Fresnel lens.  

  • June 13         -           Point Cabrillo - Lighthouse Lens Tours 2 of 4.

Guided by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, visitors have an opportunity to view the working Third Order Fresnel lens close up. [Donation Requested] 

  • June               -           Children’s Point Cabrillo Art Project Exhibit

 August

  • August 8       -           National Lighthouse Day - Lighthouse Lens Tours  – 3 of 4.

  • September 26  -       Cabrillo Days - Lighthouse Lens Tours - U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary 4 of 4.
